IPAWS: Upcoming Login Conversion to prepare for MFA
We will soon be rolling out a new login experience for IPAWS. This update lays the groundwork for multi-factor authentication (MFA) on your IPAWS account, giving you an additional layer of security when you sign in.
Before the new sign-in method becomes available to you, your existing username and password need to be converted to our new authentication service. This is a one-time step, and this guide walks through what to expect — both today and after the update — so you know what's coming.
Right now, signing in to IPAWS works the way it always has — no extra steps, no additional prompts. Once this update is live, sign-in will look almost identical at first — the difference is a one-time account migration step the first time you log in after the change.
Step 1: Sign in as usual at our main system or using IPAWS only
Enter your username and password just like you do today. Nothing changes at this step.
Step 2: Account migration prompt (first login only)
If your account hasn't yet been converted to the new MFA-ready login, you'll see an “Account Update Required” screen like the one below:

Account Update Required
Instructions:
This is a one time account migration step that requires you to enter your password again.
- Click Migrate Account below
- Enter your password again on the new login portal to migrate your account to the updated version.
- If you receive an invalid password error on this step, it's likely that you already have a Konexus account and you will need to use your password for apps.alertsense.com
Future login attempts will be automatically redirected to the new sign in page after you enter your username.
Additional Information:
What is this for?
- This update makes your account eligible for enhanced security features like Single Sign On and Multi-Factor Authentication
- If you use any other Konexus applications, you will now be able to login using a single set of credentials rather than one for cap.alertsense.com and another for apps.alertsense.com.
Why do I need to Enter my Password Twice?
- The first password request verifies your account access for cap.alertsense.com application
- The second is to migrate your account to the updated version and merge it with your existing Konexus account (apps.alertsense.com) if you already have one.

On this screen:
- Click Migrate Account.
- You'll be taken to the new login portal and asked to enter your password again to complete the migration.
- If your agency uses our main system, enter your https://apps.alertsense.com password.
- If your agency does not use our main system, enter your normal password for the IPAWS system at https://cap.alertsense.com.
- If you get an “invalid password” error at this step, it likely means you already have a separate login in the main system — use that account's password instead.
- Makes your account eligible for enhanced security features, including Single Sign-On (SSO) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
- If your agency uses more than one Konexus application, you'll be able to log in with a single set of credentials instead of a separate one for each.
Step 3: You're migrated
Once your account has been converted, this migration screen won't appear again. Future sign-ins will redirect automatically to the new sign-in page after you enter your username.
