How are duplicate weather events handled?

All Weather Alert Destinations Filtering

A Unique Identifier that is generated by the National Weather Service is tracked in our system. Any future weather events with the same Unique Identifier are ignored.

Our system only triggers a weather alert when the Alert EventType is “Alert” or “Cancel”. Updates are ignored.

Email/Text/Voice Weather Alert Filtering

Our system checks against past Weather Alerts sent within 30 minutes by FIPS code and Subject. FIPS that have received an alert within the 30 minute window with a matching subject will be removed from the weather alert regardless of the Unique Identifier.

Tornados are the exception because their status changes quickly, so ALL tornado events are sent.

All weather events are sent to the MyAlerts app.
